I've never been so thankful for my bike helmet. Also I've never so greatly appreciated the biking culture in Northern California. Finally I've never been so annoyed by the "no bikes during rush hour" rule on the DC metro system. Today I picked my bike up from the nice people who reassembled it for me. Then the nice metro people wouldn't let me come into the station, but didn't tell me why until I begged for them to come out of their little glass room to speak to me. Then I rode my bike all the way back to Aileen's apartment instead. Not that it was so far. On the contrary, it was only a couple of miles. But I was a bit terrified by the devil-may-care attitude of the drivers toward me on the way. Sheesh.

That is one thing I love about NC - the miles and miles of bike trails and generally friendly attitude toward biking. We have the start of one trail only three blocks from our house, and I know several people who commute that way. Now Kal just needs to turn a year so I can throw him in the bike trailer...
